Work

Tue Jun 5, 2007, 11:57 PM
It has been almost 2 years... sometimes i still wonder what are the reasons why i have decided to quit being a civil & structural engineer...
Is it because of:
1) long working hours (70hrs/wk)
2) do not recognise sundays & public holidays (Only dates in the calendar are Project Start and End dates)
3) little pay + no 13th mth for 4yrs (light yrs behind your peers)
4) losing hair (irreversible damage from wearing the hardhat)
5) unfair treatment (the boss's son is your colleague)
6) acrophobia (can't cross the overhead bridge as a kid, not to mentioned you have to stand on top of unfinished buildings)
7) being a spare (they need my local uni certificate to meet the statutory requirements, else they can replace you anytime and with people from anywhere).

Ultimately, I think why pple enjoy their work is because they are being appreciated in the things they do. Of course you will need to have a certain level of competency in the job in the first place :P. Definitely every job has its own problems and difficulties, some are physically & mentally demanding while others can simply bored you to death. Being appreciated can keep a person energised, turn "work" into a "hobby with passion".... Maybe that's why there are so many pple trying to turn their hobbies into "work" :D.

No doubt that our ultimate appreciator is God...but working with people who are unappreciative can be a real torture...

Juz some tots today (talking to myself)... dunno if i'm making sense....
